Catalogue · Brooches
Brooches — styles you will see at the showroom.
Figural work in the old manner — the counter where the craft shows more plainly than anywhere else in the hall.
A representative selection. Stock turns over daily, so treat these as the house style rather than a list of what is in the case today.
What to look at
A brooch carries no size constraint from a finger or an earlobe, so this is where goldsmiths put the detail: leaves, birds, flowers, insects, often with dozens of small stones set across a curved surface. Turn one over. The back of a good brooch is finished as carefully as the front, and that is the fastest way to judge a workshop.
Check the pin and the catch, since an unsafe fastening is how brooches get lost. A roll-over or double-lock catch is worth the difference over a simple hook, especially on a heavy piece that will be pinned to a coat rather than a blouse.
